I suggest to most people when they ask me which Card Deck should I begin with I highly recommend a good ole fashion deck of Bicycle Cards.
They are cheap, you can buy them most anywhere. They love to be handled by many hands and they're easy to read. What more could you ask for in a beginners deck.
It makes the transition to a Tarot deck much simpler. You'll find very quickly how similar the suits are and the numerology is practically identical. Learning how each card feeds off of each other, the nuances of each individual card, and their unique stories. It's a beautiful and amazing thing and a great way to get started!
Please be advised these are my personal observations listed below...they are just suggestions.
Suits:
Diamonds = Money or Influence (self-esteem at times)
Clubs = Work or Outward or Disruptions (something you can usually see...be it sickness, abuse, fights really depends on what card/cards fall near by... you should be able to tell pretty quickly)
Hearts = Love or Strong Emotions/Emotional Ties
Spades = Mental Effects (very similar to swords)

ACES - simply put are YOU
TWO's - a Pair, Lovers, Partners, or Partnerships (as in Business dealings)
THREE's- Siblings, or small close group of friends (Peer group)
FOUR's - Family or Close relations like family
FIVE's - Person feeling left out like a fifth wheel (this could be a personal choice or a forced separation)
SIX's - Pathways or Blockages (movers or transformers)
SEVEN to TEN- meanings may vary but I like to use these as a gage. These cards tells you how much...love, joy, disruption, manipulation is involved in the situation. Sometime even progression...as in if you see a 5,6,7,8...things are escalating or if a 10 of hearts is next to a Jack of heart it shows a strong emotional connection. (or you could easy just use standard numerology means...I'll leave it up to you)
JACK's - young man or children (childish behavior... also see suites for more info)
QUEEN's - a Woman or Women / female aspects (suites will dictate what kind of woman)
KING's - a Man or Men / male aspect (suites will dictate what kind of a man... note: sometimes if a woman run her own house hold or wears the pants she may show up at a king)
